First Citizens Bank
This project was a very unique one, building all of the cabinetry and millwork for First Citizens Bank in Charles City. But, here at Denny’s Cabinet Shop we specialize in custom and unique projects. This project was full of curves and angles. No place for the geometrically challenged. Setting deadlines early on in the process and sticking to them, is an important part of the way we do things. This was of particular importance in this project since it was taking place in phases while the bank remained open. Any delay from me would have compounding effects. I am happy to say we hit all of the deadlines.
Above is pictured a part of the process for making the central reception desk of the bank. This portion of the project was a good representation of the challenges associated with the project as a whole. Firstly by taking the measurements from the architectural drawings and laying out all the full size radiuses of the desk on the floor. It’s tough just to find enough floor space to do this task, which is where it comes in handy to know people with buildings for storing farm equipment. Once everything was laid out correctly I was able to make the “rib cage” (framing) of the radius walls. The next hurdle was laying up the rift sawn red oak veneer onto the face of the walls. Then, on to staining and finishing. It is no small task to achieve even color and finish on such a large surface area. Also shown in this section of pictures is the laying out of the front sections of the reception desk that would frame out the stone masonry section. This area combined radius work with angled work for a bit of an extra challenge.
Below you can see some of the finished photos of the teller line and the rest of the bank.
